How we can help you

Consultation

Diane is a qualified Medical Herbalist and Naturopath – BnatMed and is a member of The New Zealand Association of Medical Herbalists – NZAMH.

A personal consultation is a great way to become empowered and involved in your wellness – whether you are managing an ongoing health condition, want to get to the bottom of why you don’t feel your best or just need some extra support to maintain your energy and vitality. So many of us don’t realize we can improve our physical health and maintain a sense of calm by just making some changes in our diet, recognizing where we need a little more social support or finding a moment of stillness in our day.

In consultation, it’s all about you! Your personal consultation allows time – to get to know you and discuss your health concerns, to gather information regarding your health history, to establish the need for further testing that may be required. Testing may include hormone, heavy metal, food sensitivity or blood tests. Your symptoms, diet, lifestyle, and level of activity is assessed as well as identifying areas of stress – a major factor in today’s world. The way you feel is hugely important and impacts on your wellness, your personalized treatment plan takes this into account too.

Your recommendations may include

Plant remedies – herbal medicines, homeobotanicals and flower essences
Minerals and nutritional supplements
Dietary and nutritional guidance and recipes
Exercise and lifestyle advice
Bodywork modalities – Bowen or Reiki

Bowen Therapy

Bowtech – The original Bowen technique

Diane is trained in Bowen Therapy to the highest level (Master’s) and is a professional member of Bowen Therapy New Zealand – BTNZ, and Bowen Therapy association of Australia – BTAA.

Bowen therapy is a gentle, profoundly effective and non-invasive form of bodywork. Very subtle rolling movements are performed over the muscles and connective tissue sending messages deep into the body to rebalance and promote healing, pain relief and recovery of energy. These gentle moves are restorative to the nervous system, allowing the body to shift into a state of ‘rest, relax and repair’.

No forceful manipulation is used and a treatment is a very relaxing experience. It addresses not only the musculoskeletal framework, but also the fascia, nerves and internal organs. Frequent essential pauses throughout the session allow the body time to respond and begin the healing process. The benefits may include improved circulation and lymphatic drainage, increased assimilation of nutrients, elimination of toxins, and release of cellular memory of trauma from accident, injury or stressful events.

Bowen therapy may be considered for anyone – it is beneficial during pregnancy and to settle newborn babies, right through to those who are frail and the elderly. It can assist recovery from many conditions, from traumatic stress or injury to chronic conditions, depending on each individual’s capacity to heal. You don’t need to have anything wrong to enjoy the benefits of Bowen – it ensures your body is functioning at its best.

Often only 3 treatments are required. Long-standing, chronic or degenerative conditions may need more sessions as required.

Consider for:

  • Stress and tension symptoms
  • Musculoskeletal pain or injury
  • Digestive or bowel problems
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Sleep issues
  • Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue
  • Asthma and allergies
  • Fertility issues
  • Menstrual and hormonal irregularities
  • Pregnancy and post delivery
  • Unsettled baby – colic, reflux, birth trauma

Session fee

Adult (1 hour) $60 (children $30 – $45)

Double family appointments may also be arranged. Newborn babies free.

What is Bowtech?

The Bowen Technique (also known as Bowtech – the Original Bowen Technique, and Bowenwork) is a dynamic system of muscle and connective tissue therapy that was developed by the late Tom Bowen in Geelong, Australia. Sometimes called the homeopathy of bodywork, it utilizes subtle inputs to the body (known as moves), stimulating the body to heal itself, often profoundly.

The Bowen Technique offers tremendous benefit to clients with very little effort on the part of the practitioner. It can provide relief for many types of injuries and other health problems, both acute and chronic, and it does so holistically, via the body’s innate healing mechanisms. The practitioner’s moves deliver signals to the nervous system at specific locations (on muscles, tendons, ligaments, or nerves), and the body responds in its own time, within its vital capacity. While there are a few, very specific situations in which a particular procedure is contraindicated, Bowen Technique is appropriate for people of all ages, in all degrees of health.

When faced with an acute injury, a Bowtech practitioner may effectively apply the work to address only the traumatized areas, since the client has had little time to compensate for, and accommodate to, the injury. However, most practitioners find themselves working with clients whose conditions have developed gradually over many years, and patterns of dysfunctional muscle recruitment and posture have become entrenched over time. In these cases, Bowtech practitioners often need to take a more ‘whole-body’ approach to facilitate optimal alignment and recovery.

Rather than focusing on a single complaint, Bowen Technique addresses the entire body, by restoring balance via the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS controls over 80% of bodily functions and is very susceptible to external stressors. Most people today live in a constant state of high stress and sympathetic ANS over-stimulation (fight, flight or freeze mode). Healing can occur only after the ANS shifts from sympathetic to parasympathetic dominance (rest, relax and repair mode). Bowen Technique enables that shift. During a session, the client often drops into deep relaxation or falls asleep, and loud peristalsis may be heard. Both of these changes are indications of a profound release from stress and a shift towards parasympathetic influence. This shift could explain, in part, the common observation that a Bowen Technique session seems to reactivate the recovery process in situations where healing from trauma, sickness or surgery has stalled or reached a plateau.

A Bowen Technique session may last from 15 to 45 minutes. Clients usually lie on a massage/bodywork table , or may be seated in a chair if required, for comfort. A session involves one or more ‘procedures’, each of which consists of several sets of moves. The moves are gentle, but purposeful, and can often be performed through light clothing. Between each set of moves, the practitioner pauses for as many minutes as are needed for the client’s body to begin responding. As the nervous system begins to adjust the tension level in the muscles, the practitioner senses when the client is ready for the next set of moves. A common approach in a session is to balance the entire body by addressing the lower back, then the upper back, and then the neck. To minimize the need for disturbing the client’s rest, all procedures that address the back of the client are completed before turning over for procedures that are done with the client lying on his/her back.

In contrast to other hands-on modalities, where the practitioner imposes correction on the client through manipulation, Bowen Technique facilitates the body in healing itself, with minimal intervention. Because of the subtle nature of Bowen Technique, and the body’s continuing response to it over several days thereafter, other forms of manipulative therapy are discouraged for at least five days after a session, as they may interfere with the efficacy of the work.

Reiki Healing

Reiki is the passing through, or channeling, of ‘Life Force Energy’, used to promote healing and balance in our lives. The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words – Rei, meaning God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power, and Ki, Life Force Energy.
A Reiki session involves the practitioner passing the Reiki energy to the client by the light touch of the hands. This balances the body and releases energy blockages allowing relaxation and healing.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method, of spiritual and self improvement. Nothing is required from a person receiving Reiki, just the desire to receive healing. There is no belief system attached to Reiki, so anyone can receive the Reiki energy. A person receiving Reiki can receive healing on many levels, body, emotions, mind, and spirit. Reiki enhances the body’s own healing ability, promoting well-being, personal growth and a sense of inner peace, and restoring balance.

A Reiki session is extremely relaxing and takes approximately 1 hour. The practitioner’s hands are held on or over the body, or both during the session, usually working over the back then the front of the body.
